The word Aerobics is made up of two Greek words: Aero meaning air and Bios meaning life. Hence, Aerobics is a mode of exercise that lets body use more oxygen while keeping a steady heart rate. Dance Aerobics is a form of Aerobics exercise performed at a rhythmic pace in conjunction with some background music. It is a kind of group workout. The instructor generally breaks the aerobics choreography into small chunks. Each small chunk is demonstrated first and then is performed as a whole. Traditionally, the aerobic dance form would consist of movements like box steps, line movements, whereas some also include hip-hop dance movements. These movements are choreographed in sync with the music that includes mostly techno, disco, big band or Bollywood. Caution: The repetitive stepping and jumping that dance aerobics consists of is not beneficial if you have joint, bone or ligament problems In order to perform the aerobics, it is important that the trainer knows how to move to the rhythm of the music (to make leg and arm moves according to the measure). The measures in aerobics are expressed by Musical Block - A musical block has 32 beats and Aerobics Dance depends on Beats per minute (BPM), for example, 130 BPM means that music has 130 beats in one minute. After every training there is a cool down phase to relax all the active muscles. Cool down should last atleast 5-10 minutes and begins generally with mild steps or moves until the pulse comes down to normal. The music for cool down is a free choice but should ideally be some slow and soothing one to aid relaxation.
